Students from Years 4, 5 and 6 from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Primary School had the opportunity to participate in Wakakirri. Wakakirri is Australia’s Largest Performing Arts Event. Each year hundreds of schools across Australia create story dances that reflect student’s thoughts, ideas and aspirations. Our students were inspired by the book ‘I’m Australian Too’ by Mem Fox.
The story is about bringing cultures together and displaying how multicultural Australia is. The students felt this represented our school community. In our first year of the competition, our school was awarded the ‘Spirit of Wakakirri’ award and ‘Best Multicultural Story’ for 2019. The students were amazing and should be congratulated for their enthusiasm, talent and for showing the utmost respect to the Wakakirri crew and other performers.
